The prize was awarded for a work in oil and spray paint on canvas entitled Batboy.

Through intervention, colour and mark making, I want to make paintings that enable the viewer to empathise, recall what it was to be a child and so, to be human.

These awards, now in their 30th year, reward excellence and are judged by a panel of architects, journalists, design consultants and other experts who between them visit hundreds of different sites across the whole country.

The judges’ comments about the site were very positive and described The Square as a “classy and successful example of how mixed-use schemes, when done properly, can truly transform a neighbourhood”.

It was recognised that Seaward had achieved a “well-conceived and well-executed residential element in a far from easy site” and had managed to avoid “compromising on space in the units or by overcrowding the development”.

The design of the properties was praised and the high quality internal finishes and fixtures also received positive comment.

What particularly attracted her was the size of the rooms, which were much larger than she had expected for a new property, and she also saw the garage and parking space as a benefit in a town centre property.

When her friends saw the property they told her to “go for it” and she is delighted that she did. “It is everything I could need or want in a house; very well built, light and elegant.”

Not only is Mrs Pope happy with her new home, she is also enjoying the fact that everything she needs is right on her doorstep including two excellent restaurants within The Square.

There is nothing she would change and she has now made the property her own with beautiful curtains, furniture and paintings.

Kevin Marsh (Captain), Rob Johnson, Colin Lambert and Mark Stuckey rode through France sporting Seaward’s logo on their shirts and, despite soaring temperatures, some serious hill climbs and occasionally getting lost, they completed the 545 miles in three days.
