Anyone visiting Chichester during the past couple of weeks cannot have failed to see the amazing street art created during the Chichester Street Art Festival.
The brainchild of Neil Lawson-Baker, organiser of the National Open Art Competition, working with Street Art London, the Festival saw major street artists from around the world converge on Chichester to transform buildings throughout the city.
Metro House, home of Seaward Properties, proudly displays the poster image for the Festival created by Thierry Noir on its front wall. Noir was a forerunner of the modern street art movement, painting 18kms of the Berlin Wall between 1984 and 1989. Works by Liquen, Run, Phlegm and Hitnes are also on show at Metro, together with a Christiaan Nagel mushrooms and two of Cityzen Kayne’s installations.
Other locations for street art around Chichester are the old Electric Cinema next to Metro House, Cathedral Garage, the side wall of Superdrug, 43 North Street, the rear of the Henry Adams building in Baffins Lane and the Chichester Festival Theatre where students and members of the public had the opportunity to fill in outlines drawn by Thierry Noir on the hoarding currently surrounding the theatre building.
Viewing of the street art is highly recommended.
