Seaward Properties has been delighted to support the renowned and highly regarded National Open Art Competition over a number of years through its sponsorship of a fine art prize. The company has also worked closely with its founder, the Chichester sculptor Neil Lawson-Baker, on a number of other projects including Chichester’s Street Art Festival in 2013 and the commissioning of a public work of art for its residential and retail development at The Square in 2014.

This year’s recipient of the Seaward Award was young artist Rob Reed for his painting entitled Allotments 3, one of two works from ‘the great escape’ series selected by the judges to be exhibited at Somerset House. Focusing on everyday landscapes, these images aim to allow the viewer to temporarily escape from the demanding routines and pressures of everyday life.

The National Open Art Competition Exhibition was launched with the lighting of Gavin Turk’s new sculpture, Port, and at the presentation ceremony on Friday 26 September Seaward shared the stage with Antony Gormley, OBE, the acclaimed sculptor whose best known work is the Angel of the North in Gateshead.

The National Open Art exhibition, with free entry, is located in the Embankment Gallery at Somerset House and is open to the public daily until 25 October from 10.00 am – 6.00 pm.
